Slate's Fred Kaplan drops a clinker for Kerry....
Mood:  irritated
Topic: Kerry's Lies and Spin
Fred Kaplan offered an incredibly biased and slanted whitewash ("John Kerry's Defense Defense") of Kerry's record in Microsoft

Fred Kaplan offered an incredibly biased and slanted whitewash ("John Kerry's Defense Defense") of Kerry's record in Microsoft's online magazine Slate, mainly based around the fact that Bush the Elder and his staff had also made sweeping cuts in the defense budget, but his argument is fallacious on at least two grounds:

1) George H.W. Bush and his staff were probably wrong to slash the defense budget as much as they did, but that doesn't excuse Kerry at all. John Kerry isn't running against George H.W. Bush, but his son, George W. Bush.

2) Even if Kaplan's assertions were true (they mostly aren't, but let's say they are for the sake of argument), there is no evidence in the voting record of John Kerry ever acting to buttress or improve our national defense while in the Senate.

Kerry even went as far as to claim that Communism was not a threat to America, even though as he spoke (the mid-1980s) thousands of Soviet missiles were pointed at us, the Soviets were paying, funding, equipping and training terrorists, arming and training to invade Western Europe, and they had violated the biological weapons protocol, operating a mammoth BW research and production program, making tons of weaponized smallpox and plague which they planned to drop on us with their ICBMs. According to Dr. Ken Alibek, deputy director of the Soviet (and later the Russian) bioweapons development and production agency Biopreparat, that lovable tree-hugging palooka Gorbachev personally signed the order for the biological missile warhead project.

George W. Bush has striven valiantly to patch the gaping holes in our defense capability made by 12 years of neglect and, in some cases, purposeful destruction, not only by his father but Bill Clinton and the disastrous Democratic majority Congress of the early 1990s - with John Kerry in there plugging for more and deeper defense cuts and weapon system cancellations.

It takes a lot of nerve for John Kerry, a willing participant in this vandalism of our armed services throughout his career, to gripe about the current President "invading on the cheap" when much of that is because Kerry and his fellow Congressional liberals did so much to pauper the Department of Defense.

Not only is John Kerry NOT the most qualified man to defend our country, he isn't even remotely qualified for the job at all. All he's ever done as a Senator is to try to weaken our armed forces. Many millions of American men and women understand the vital importance of a strong military - a concept most often attributed to Vegetius, the Roman student of military science whose book on the subject educated men of arms throughout Europe for centuries. Any of these people is more qualified to be commander-in-chief of our armed forces than John Kerry, whose career shows his total lack of comprehension of Vegetius' simple rule: "If you would have peace, prepare for war."

Finally, reports of Kerry's demeanor in Massachusetts show a pattern of narcissistic and abusive behavior toward mere taxpayers that many Americans in and out of the Armed Forces would find incompatible with being the Commander-in-Chief of the United States' military. Will having the power that comes with the Presidency turn Kerry into a 21st century dictator, a Boston brahmin-ized Huey Long? Let's try not to find out, shall we?

Kerry on Defense - what if Kerry had gotten his way? (pt 2 of 2)
Mood:  incredulous
Topic: Kerry's Lies and Spin
Let's say that John Kerry, and not Michael Dukakis, had run against Bush the Elder in 1988 - and won.

Let's also stipulate that unassailable Democratic majorities existed in the House and Senate, capable of supporting any move Kerry wanted to make, and endlessly willing to do it, even at the expense of their constituencies.

In this hypothetical alternate 2004, we're in deep trouble - "we" meaning "the whole world, even the French and Germans." Why? It's all John Kerry's fault.

In 1990, instead of going to the aid of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia when Saddam Hussein attacked, President Kerry declined to act. Saddam was able to seize the oil fields and refineries in northeast Saudi Arabia before a coalition of Britain, France, the Saudis, Egyptians, Syrians and the Gulf Cooperation Council stopped his forces short of Mecca.

However, this coalition was not powerful enough to throw Saddam out of either Kuwait or the land he occupied (and continues to occupy) in Saudi Arabia. Saddam was able to pay Iraq's massive debts from the Iran-Iraq War of the 1980s with the profits from oil production in the captured lands.

Saudi Arabia and the other Persian Gulf states eventually made an uneasy peace with Saddam Hussein, who is now well on his way to his long-term goal of politically and militarily dominating the Arab world by a mixture of overt threats and covert subversion and support for international terror.

President Kerry's inaction during the Iraq-Kuwait Crisis allowed Saddam Hussein's program to acquire weapons of mass destruction to proceed unimpeded.

By the fall of 1992, the nuclear weapons program headed by Saddam's son-in-law Hussein Kamel was able to leapfrog past the construction of fission-only weapons, purchasing plans from the Chinese of the technology behind compact hydrogen bombs of the type used in American nuclear artillery shells which was stolen by the Chinese from Los Alamos National Laboratories - an event which was soft-pedaled by the national press, as was the multi-million dollar series of campaign donations made at roughly the same time by the Chinese Army through several intermediaries to Vice-President Al Gore's office.

By 1994, mass-production lines were established in Iraq both for the compact nuclear artillery shells and for strategic hydrogen bombs roughly equal in yield and design sophistication to those on Minuteman III ICBMs. By then, no hope existed of curtailing any of Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction acquisition programs - so he soon became the possessor of the fourth largest nuclear arsenal on Earth, and the second largest chemical and biological arsenals, after the Soviet Union.

Of course, the Iranians were not sitting on their hands during all of this - their program to acquire nuclear weapons instantly went into overdrive, and received crucial assistance from the nuclear arms bazaar run by Pakistani nuclear scientist A.Q. Khan. The 1990s were a busy decade for Dr. Khan, who sold nuclear weapons and plutonium manufacturing technology to Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Egypt and Libya as well, mostly with Saudi financing.

In 2000 Hosni Mubarrak, the strongman ruler of Egypt, was killed by the Muslim Brotherhood, and a junta of radical Muslim army and air force officers took control of the country. Encouraged by their covert possession of nuclear weapons and strengthened by the military might conferred by Mubarrak's military partnership with the United States, the Egyptian junta overran the Sinai buffer zone in August 2004 with a massive armored force while bombing Israeli positions indiscriminately.

The Syrians, forewarned of the attack, seized the opportunity to recover the Golan Heights from Israel. Syrian-assisted Hezbollah guerillas invade northern Israel before being bombed and destroyed by fighters from Ramat David Air Base.

Stout Israeli resistance to the Egyptian/Syrian attack placed the success of the operation in doubt, and poor command and control is blamed later for an Egyptian brigade commander's decision to destroy a large concentration of Israeli armor with a nuclear-armed and range-enhanced Nodong-2 tactical missile (bought secretly from North Korea).

The Israelis responded with tactical nuclear strikes on Egyptian and Syrian troop formations and air defense sites. Tel Aviv, Damascus and Cairo were destroyed in retaliatory strikes before the respective armies' command and control was totally disrupted and the remnants of the warring forces withdrew to their countries to help restore order.

Saudi Arabia soon announced its possession of nuclear weapons, followed by Iraq, Iran, Libya and Syria, all threatening to finish the destruction of Israel if the West Bank settlements were not evacuated forthwith.

Meanwhile, President Gore was left totally without options. Then-President Kerry's refusal to stop the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia in 1990 largely destroyed any credibility or diplomatic clout the United States had built up in the Persian Gulf under Reagan.

When Kerry stopped production of the M1 Abrams tank and Bradley fighting vehicle, most US Army and National Guard units were left with M60A3 main battle tanks, based on an obsolete design dating from the Korean War, and M113A3 armored personnel carriers whose comparatively thin armor won't even stop heavy machine gun fire.

The complete lack of a credible equipment base for modern manuever warfare causes the US Armed Forces to abandon the AirLand Battle concept which might have given American forces a decisive and vastly disproportionate edge in combat effectiveness over Iraqi and other potential Middle Eastern adversaries. (Note: and which actually did do so during Operations Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom in the real world)

Even if Gore had wanted to intervene in the rapidly evolving 2004 bloodbath in the Middle East, he couldn't have gotten enough troops and tanks to the area in to make a difference before the worst damage had been done, because Kerry had also halted purchase of enough C-5B Galaxy military transport planes to move a division's worth of troops and supplies in a timely fashion.

Meanwhile, Kerry's massive drawdown of US defense capabilities, his precipitous and unilateral cancellation of the "Star Wars" missile defense program and cancellation of advanced infantry and armor weapons systems in the pipeline removed much of the pressure on the Soviet economy and restored the Communist Party's prestige and power, assuring its survival through the 1990s.

Demonstrators against a new wave of oppression were mowed down by internal security troops throughout Russia, and the Soviets' secret biological warfare program went on as usual, while Kerry's science advisor Matthew Meselson poured scorn on the idea that the Soviets had a secret bioweapons program.

The epidemic in the US and Britain of an odd strain of Legionnaire's Disease that killed its victims by making their immune systems attack the myelin coating of their nervous systems came as a complete surprise to Gore administration officials and all of the major press organizations except the Weekly Standard, National Review, and Fox News. (Note: such an agent was actually developed by Dr. Sergei Popov of the Soviet Biopreparat biological weapons agency, according to the New York Times)

Encouraged by the Soviets' political resurrection, the Chinese Politburo ordered a crackdown of dissent and democratic political activity, culminating in the murder or imprisonment of two million politically unreliable citizens, and signed a 20-year nonaggression pact with the Soviet Union.

Chinese and Soviet naval units began a series of joint exercises in the Pacific, at times harassing fishing boats and freighters running under the US flag and those of her allies.

Osama bin Laden, on his return from Afghanistan to Saudi Arabia, gained a loyal following among all classes of Saudi society. His plan to have hijackers commandeer passenger planes and crash them into targets in New York and Washington DC was discarded when some of his followers in the Saudi National Guard use their positions of trust to steal two nuclear weapons from the Saudi arsenal and give them to bin Laden's organizations.

Six weeks later, just before the Egyptian/Syrian attack on Israel, the city centers of New York and Washington DC were incinerated by nuclear blasts.

But President Gore (away on a state visit to Beijing) was in no position to respond to these atrocities, because one of predecessor John Kerry's first acts in office was to cancel the Peacekeeper missile program and remove existing Peacekeepers from service, and to drastically curtail American intelligence activities throughout the world in order to assuage the concerns of his friends in the French and German governments.

Thus, there was no way to identify where the bombs came from (the plutonium was made in secret Pakistani nuclear reactors whose design and characteristics are unknown to the IAEA and CIA), and retaliation against the responsible parties (in the unlikely event they were ever identified by the post-Kerry CIA) with obsolete missile and aircraft delivery systems and old, unserviced nuclear warheads was chancy enough that Gore was unwilling to risk that option.

Occasionally, a city in Europe or the United States disappears under a mushroom cloud. Europe and the United States are united - in their inability to do a damn thing about it.

Kerry admits to being a left-winger from birth...
Mood:  mischievious
Topic: Unintentional truths
John Kerry, speaking before the Democratic Convention at Boston tonight (Thursday, July 29th, 2004) made a nice little joke about being born in the West Wing (get it?) of Fitzsimons Army Hospital here in Denver. What's REALLY funny is that when you drive into the main entrance to the old Fitzsimons Army Hospital grounds, the west wing is also the LEFT wing. I've heard of prenatal (or in this case "perinatal") influence being powerful, but DAMN....

Kerry on Defense - Better qualified to defend the US than anyone? Or a self-promoting liar? Or a war criminal? (part 1 of 2)
Mood:  incredulous
Topic: Kerry's Lies and Spin

In their television commercials, the Johns (Kerry and Edwards) have tried to morph John Kerry into a warrior prince - sort of a shoddily-embalmed looking, knee-jerk liberal Cincinnatus. In what we can only hope will turn into an asthmatic Bill Clinton wheeze after a few months of shouting lies, John Edwards declaims "No man is better qualified to defend the American people than John Kerry!" in his first TV campaign ads.

Obviously Edwards was chosen because of his insidious sense of humor, because anyone familiar with Senator Kerry's voting record and his testimony before a Senate committee after he separated from naval service should get a good chuckle out of that claim.

John Kerry the disillusioned Vietnam Veteran flung someone else's medals at the Capitol building to protest the war in Vietnam. Of course, no one explained this to the onlookers, reporters and press photographers present. If the public knew that Kerry was throwing someone else's medals away they might not have been as impressed. Great show of character, Senator.

Then Kerry assembled a road show of dysfunctional-looking men who claimed they had been present during atrocities committed by American troops in Vietnam or had taken part in those atrocities themselves.

Since these would have been serious violations of the law which applies to American troops, these atrocity claims were investigated by the Department of Defense.

Guess what? When investigators from the military questioned these men about their involvement in atrocities while in Vietnam, it turned out that no one could testify as to how and when these atrocities happened. Some of the men who testified weren't even serving where they COULD take part in atrocities. Some of the men weren't even Vietnam veterans - some had never served in the Armed Forces at all.

Why they told these lies is between them and their photographer (and possibly their drama coach) - John Kerry. These men were apparently persuaded to speak lies about their service and that of their fellow veterans by someone... and their road trip was partly orchestrated and publicized by one Lt. John Kerry, formerly of the U.S. Navy.

Just how many real Vietnam Veterans experienced bigotry, rudeness and rejection because of John Kerry's work with these people can only be imagined. The fact remains that John Kerry helped fake Vietnam Veterans lie about and tarnish the reputations of REAL Vietnam Veterans.

Kerry himself testified to having committed atrocities against Vietnamese civilians before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee after leaving the Navy. Now he's awful coy about exactly what those atrocities might have been, and why he never served time in jail for having committed them. Conclusion - Kerry either lied about committing the atrocities before Congress, under oath, or he is a war criminal.

Let's make sure we have this right - John Kerry either committed perjury before Congress or committed war crimes while serving in Vietnam. Either way, why isn't he enjoying Federal hospitality, perhaps at the John Gotti Suite in the Federal prison at Marion, Illinois?

If Martha Stewart can be convicted of lying to the Feds and sentenced to five months in jail and a fifty-thousand dollar fine, what's lying to Congress or having unjustly wounded or killed Vietnamese civilians worth? Personally, I favor the elegant solution of deporting Senator Kerry to France, where he, like Jerry Lewis, can wow the locals with his mastery of the absurd.

Why did John Kerry lie about what he did in Vietnam? If he WASN'T lying, why is an admitted war criminal walking around free, much less running for President of the United States? Last time I checked, the President of the United States could not be a felon, and here's John Kerry, who swore before a Senate committee to committing war crimes!

Is this the unique experience John Edwards was shouting to the crowd about? Does John Kerry's record of deception and possible war crimes qualify him above all others to defend the American people? Or was it Kerry's admittedly brave but low-echelon service commanding a river boat in Vietnam?

By contrast, the current Secretary of State was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff before retiring. How does Kerry's experience in national defense trump Colin Powell's? Vice President Cheney was Secretary of Defense. Does Kerry know more about national defense than Dick Cheney? Very unlikely. Donald Rumsfeld was Secretary of Defense TWICE - once in the 1970s, and again now - he's probably forgotten more about national defense than Kerry and Edwards know between them.

Off hand, I can think of several dozen men and women who are much more qualified to defend the American people than John Kerry, if only because they don't lie about what they or other people did under arms, defending the rest of us. George W. Bush happens to be one of them. Character counts, and Kerry has less of it - much less - than Bush.

Next time, I'll discuss what a tight crack all of our butts would now be in if Senator John Kerry had cast the deciding vote on a number of crucial decisions during his career - a career where he earned the dubious distinction of being judged more liberal than his Senate colleague Teddy Kennedy.

Until then, imagine fighting a modern war without modern weapons, adequate personnel protection or sufficient speed in moving troops into battle and you'll understand what John Kerry voted for his entire Senate career - and luckily for our people in uniform, what he didn't get.

Jimmy Carter's version of "Sixteen Tons" - 'I owe my soul to the Arabian banks.... '
Mood:  incredulous
Topic: Hypocrites In The NEWS!!!

Why does Jimmy Carter have such a grudge against Israel, our only reliable ally in the Middle East?  Because he's a hypocrite and he takes bribe money from the Arabs.  He's no more a statesman, a humanitarian or an American patriot than his good friend Kim Jong-Il.

http://www.washtimes.com/op-ed/20061220-092736-3365r.htm

"Carter's Arab financiers
By Rachel Ehrenfeld
Published December 21, 2006

To understand what feeds former president Jimmy Carter's anti-Israeli frenzy, look at his early links to Arab business.

Between 1976-1977, the Carter family peanut business received a bailout in the form of a $4.6 million, "poorly managed" and highly irregular loan from the National Bank of Georgia (NBG).  According to a July 29, 1980 Jack Anderson expose in The Washington Post, the bank's biggest borrower was Mr. Carter, and its chairman at that time was Mr. Carter's confidant, and later his director of the Office of Management and Budget, Bert Lance.

At that time, Mr. Lance's mismanagement of the NBG got him and the bank into trouble. Agha Hasan Abedi, the Pakistani founder of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI), known as the bank "which would bribe God," came to Mr. Lance's rescue making him a $100,000-a-year consultant. Abedi then declared: "we would never talk about exploiting his relationship with the president." Next, he introduced Mr. Lance to Saudi billionaire Gaith Pharaon, who fronted for BCCI and the Saudi royal family. In January 1978, Abedi paid off Mr. Lance's $3.5 million debt to the NBG, and Pharaon secretly gained control over the bank.

Mr. Anderson wrote: "Of course, the Saudis remained discretely silent...  kept quiet about Carter's irregularities... [and] renegotiated the loan to Carter's advantage."

There is no evidence that the former president received direct payment from the Saudis. But "according to... the bank files, [it] renegotiated the repayment terms... savings... $60,000 for the Carter family... The President owned 62% of the business and therefore was the largest beneficiary."

Pharaon later contributed generously to the former president's library and center.

When Mr. Lance introduced Mr. Carter to Abedi, the latter gave $500,000 to help the former president establish his center at Emory University. Later, Abedi contributed more than $10 million to Mr. Carter's different projects.

Even after BCCI was indicted - and convicted -- for drug money laundering, Mr. Carter accepted $1.5 million from Abedi, his "good friend."

A quick survey of the major contributors to the Carter Center reveals
hundreds of millions of dollars from Saudi and Gulf contributors. But it was BCCI that helped Mr. Carter established his center.

BCCI's origins were primarily ideological. Abedi wanted the bank to reflect the supra-national Muslim credo and "the best bridge to help the world of Islam, and the best way to fight the evil influence of the Zionists."

Shortly after assuming office, in March 1977, Mr. Carter made his first
public statement regarding a Palestinian "homeland." Since then, he has devoted much of his time to denouncing Israel's self-defense against Palestinian terrorism, which he claims is not only "abominable oppression and persecution" of the Palestinians, but also damages U.S. interests in the region.

By the time BCCI was shut down in July1991, it operated in 73 countries with a deficit of $12 billion, which it had managed to hide with wealthy Arab shareholders and Western luminaries. Among them Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahayan of Abu Dhabi, who gave hundreds of millions of dollars to Yasser Arafat and Palestinian terrorist groups, and who branded the United States: "our enemy number one"; Former head of Saudi foreign intelligence service, and King Faisal's brother-in-law, Kamal Adham - who with another Saudi, the banker of the royal family, Khaled bin Mahfouz, staged BCCI's attempt to illegally purchase the Washington-based First American bank, in the early 1980s.

True to its agenda, BCCI assisted in spreading and strengthening the Islamic message; they enabled Pakistan's nuclear ambitions, and helped the Palestinian leadership to amass a $10 billion-plus fortune, used to further terrorist activities and to buy more influence in the West.

BCCI founders also supported the Islamic fundamentalist opposition to the Shah of Iran, and saw it as an opportunity to undermine Western influence in the Gulf. They assisted the revolution financially, reinforcing their position within the leadership of the Iranian revolution. Ironically, the success of that revolution cost Mr. Carter his presidency.

BCCI's money also facilitated the Saudi agenda to force Israel to recognize Palestinians "rights," convincing Egyptian president Anwar Sadat to sign the Camp David Accords in September 1978. Since then, Mr. Carter repeatedly provided legitimacy to Arafat's corrupt regime, and now, like the Saudis, he even sides with homicidal Hamas as the "legitimate" representative of the Palestinian people.

In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Mr. Carter again laid responsibility for U.S. bias against the destitute, depressed and
(consequently) violent Palestinians on American policy makers' helplessness, over the last 30 years, against the menacing tactics of the powerful American-Israel Political Action Committee (AIPAC).

However, it seems that AIPAC's real fault was its failure to outdo the
Saudi's purchases of the former president's loyalty. "There has not been any nation in the world that has been more cooperative than Saudi Arabia," the New York Times quoted Mr. Carter June 1977, thus making the Saudis a major factor in U. S. foreign policy.

Evidently, the millions in Arab petrodollars feeding Mr. Carter's global
endeavors, often in conflict with U.S. government policies, also ensure his loyalty.

Rachel Ehrenfeld is the director of the American Center for Democracy."

Where are the episodes of Frontline, 60 MinutesChris Matthews' Hardball20/20, and Now (with or without Bill Moyers) dealing with what looks as though it has been a systematic and very, very effective buyout of an American president - and afterwards, purchase of someone who has been falsely regarded as a beacon of probity and conscience, and who we trusted to negotiate an end to North Korea's nuclear program (did they pay him off, too, or was that simply another favor to the Saudis... )?

Where is the probing, hard-hitting investigative journalism from the (raucous laugh) "mainstream media" when we need it?  What could be more news-worthy than a pattern of big-money corruption involving a former President who presumes to represent the US overseas to this day?

These people are cynical hypocrites.
